Gallant Ship

imageI mixed this blue gouache to look like waves of the ocean. The hand is a gothicized pointed pen that I learned from Lee Sims at a Utah Calligraphic Artists meeting. The tight bounce again mimics the waves.

On a personal note, I love this hymn. I was trying to memorize it for a performance when we had a family emergency. I was driving to the hospital, not sure what I would find, when the line “No danger can the heart appall when Jesus stoops to reign” finally clicked. I burst into tears–full of fear, but I knew that we weren’t facing the event alone, and that if it were ultimately a tragedy we would be scooped up in His hands and carried through. Thankfully, there was a full recovery, and our fears were dispelled the way we had hoped.image

The best thing about the Grand Canyon is that it makes even the little normal stuff more inspiring.

The only reason his little hand doesn’t bother me there, is because I took the photo, and know that is just where he had his hand.

Reuben turned five this January. I got him to stop making zombie faces by promising to take him to get an ice cream cone. I had the light from the window, as well as an ott light which is how I got two catch lights in each eye.
