I mixed this blue gouache to look like waves of the ocean. The hand is a gothicized pointed pen that I learned from Lee Sims at a Utah Calligraphic Artists meeting. The tight bounce again mimics the waves.
On a personal note, I love this hymn. I was trying to memorize it for a performance when we had a family emergency. I was driving to the hospital, not sure what I would find, when the line “No danger can the heart appall when Jesus stoops to reign” finally clicked. I burst into tears–full of fear, but I knew that we weren’t facing the event alone, and that if it were ultimately a tragedy we would be scooped up in His hands and carried through. Thankfully, there was a full recovery, and our fears were dispelled the way we had hoped.
